A few people have asked me how I was able to get Ferdinand (or Fernando, if you're feeling spicy) into some of the positions seen here (note that I hadn't added wire yet in the first pic). I was having some trouble getting him into the positions I wanted because no matter how hard I tried, every time I'd get an arm in place and try and position a leg, everything would shift and I'd be back where I started. Muy frustrating. Trying not to let it get to me, I thought "there must be a better way!" and there was.
I got the wire seen in the picture above at Walmart in the bargain boxes near the jewelry supplies. They had all different colors and they were each $1. If you get it elsewhere (or already have some wire on hand), it would be about a 16 gauge wire.
First I used my seam ripper and and removed a few stitches near the end of each limb.
Once a little hole was made, I slipped a piece of wire all the way in (bend the end first because the wire is sharp) and then cut it, allowing a half inch or so to bend over before encasing it and stitching it shut. Stitch it shut, using white thread for the gloves and red thread for the footsies. Repeat with all limbs and VOILA! - a bendy Elf on the Shelf! Now you can pose him to your heart's content.
